👟 Part of the 14-day MTC MizMal®
For those attempting the complete MizMal®, this is Day 6 of an extraordinary journey through Ireland. For everyone else, it’s the opportunity to experience one formidable Irish ultra in its own right.
From the Atlantic coast towards the wild limestone landscape of the Burren, 46 miles of County Clare await.
46 miles. Dough to Ballyvaughan. One dark Irish legend.

One of Ireland's darkest legends. One unforgettable 46-mile ultra.

Deep within Irish folklore rides a figure feared for centuries — the Dullahan, the legendary headless horseman.
Dressed in dark clothing and riding a powerful black horse, the Dullahan is said to travel through the night, carrying his severed head beneath one arm.
And this is no ordinary horseman.
According to legend, his gruesome head bears a terrifying grin, while his supernatural vision allows him to see across vast distances, even in complete darkness.
The Dullahan is regarded as a harbinger of death. When his horse finally stops, it is said that someone's time has come.
And when he calls out a name, there is no escaping fate.
On 12th May 2027, our own Dullahan adventure begins at Bellbridge House Hotel, Dough, Co. Clare.
From there, competitors will cover 46 miles towards Ballyvaughan, journeying through the remarkable landscapes of County Clare and towards the limestone wilderness of the Burren.
You won't need a black horse.
But you will need determination, endurance and perhaps a little courage!
46 miles. One headless horseman. One legendary Irish ultra.

As the miles unfold, the route heads towards one of Ireland's most remarkable natural landscapes — the Burren.
Famous for its extraordinary limestone formations, ancient history and distinctive scenery, the Burren provides a spectacular setting for the final stages of this demanding ultra.
The finish awaits at Hylands Burren Hotel, Ballyvaughan, a picturesque village overlooking Galway Bay.
For competitors tackling the complete 14-day MizMal®, this marks the completion of Day 6 and another significant step towards Malin Head.
