MTC Gancanagh
15th May 2027

Saturday 15th May 2027 | 52 Miles
Not every danger in Irish mythology comes with terrifying claws, enormous teeth or the roar of a monstrous serpent.
Some dangers arrive with a smile!
Deep within Ireland’s ancient folklore lives the legend of the Gancanagh, a mysterious fairy renowned for his irresistible charm and the powerful enchantment he could cast over those who encountered him.
Unlike the fearsome Oilliphéist of Day 8, the Gancanagh doesn’t need brute strength to capture his victims.
His weapon is temptation!
And on Saturday 15th May 2027, we’re bringing this captivating legend to life with the Mount to Coast Gancanagh, Day 9 of our extraordinary 14-day MizMal® adventure.
At 52 miles, the MTC Gancanagh is another serious test of endurance, determination and mental resilience.
For competitors undertaking the complete MizMal® challenge, eight consecutive days of ultra running are already behind them.
Tired legs, aching muscles and accumulated fatigue will be constant companions. But the adventure continues, and another extraordinary Irish landscape awaits.
For standalone competitors, the Gancanagh offers the opportunity to experience a challenging 52-mile ultramarathon, complete with the support, camaraderie and atmosphere of MizMal®.
The Gancanagh was said to possess an almost irresistible power of attraction.
But when you’re 30, 40 or even 50 miles into an ultramarathon, the greatest temptation of all might be to stop running!
Resist the temptation, keep moving forward and earn your place among the finishers.
52 MILES. ONE ENCHANTING LEGEND. ONE EXTRAORDINARY IRISH ULTRA.

Deep within the ancient folklore of Ireland lives a mysterious and captivating creature known as the Gancanagh, sometimes called the Gean-Cánach.
Unlike the monstrous serpents and terrifying spirits found elsewhere in Irish mythology, the Gancanagh was said to possess a very different kind of power.
An irresistible charm that could leave its victims hopelessly enchanted!
Often described as a handsome male fairy, the Gancanagh was believed to wander the Irish countryside, captivating those unfortunate enough to fall under his spell.
But his attention came at a terrible price.
According to Irish folklore, the Gancanagh possessed a magical attraction that could inspire an overwhelming and sometimes destructive obsession.
Those who encountered him might find themselves consumed by longing, unable to forget the mysterious stranger who had captured their hearts.
Some tales associate his enchantment with a powerful, intoxicating substance upon his skin.
A single encounter could leave someone hopelessly lovesick, yearning for a fairy who would never return their affection.
A beautiful temptation hiding a dangerous curse!
On Saturday 15th May 2027, the legend of the Gancanagh inspires Day 9 of our extraordinary Mount to Coast MizMal® adventure.
And at 52 miles, this is another formidable challenge!
For our full MizMal® competitors, eight consecutive days of ultra running are already behind them.
The temptation to slow down, take an extended rest or surrender to tired legs will become increasingly difficult to resist.
But the finish line is waiting, and the journey towards Malin Head continues.
For standalone competitors, the MTC Gancanagh offers an opportunity to experience the magic of MizMal® through a challenging 52-mile Irish ultramarathon.
The Gancanagh could enchant those who crossed his path, leaving them unable to escape his spell.
Your challenge is rather different.
When fatigue begins whispering that you've done enough, summon the determination to keep moving.
When the miles become difficult, remember why you started.
And when the finish line finally appears, you'll have earned something far more valuable than a fairy's fleeting affection.
52 MILES. ONE IRRESISTIBLE LEGEND. ONE EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVEMENT.
