MTC Oilliphéist
14th May 2027

Friday 14th May 2027 | 58 Miles
Deep within the ancient legends of Ireland lies a creature of terrifying proportions.
The Oilliphéist — a monstrous serpent or dragon said to inhabit the country’s rivers and lakes, striking fear into those unfortunate enough to cross its path.
On Friday 14th May 2027, we’re bringing this fearsome legend to life with the Mount to Coast Oilliphéist, Day 8 of our extraordinary 14-day MizMal® adventure.
And at a formidable 58 miles, this is no ordinary ultramarathon!
For competitors undertaking the complete MizMal® challenge, seven consecutive days of ultra running are already behind them. But the second half of the journey begins with one of the biggest tests of endurance in the entire event.
For those joining us for the standalone Oilliphéist, this is an opportunity to tackle an exceptional Irish ultra, complete with the atmosphere, camaraderie and support that make MizMal® so special.
Expect a demanding day that will test your stamina, determination and mental strength.
The Oilliphéist was said to be a creature of immense power, capable of carving its way through the Irish landscape.
Your challenge is to conquer 58 miles and prove that even the most fearsome legends can be overcome.
58 MILES. ONE TERRIFYING LEGEND. ONE EXTRAORDINARY IRISH ULTRA.

Deep within the ancient folklore of Ireland lurks a creature of extraordinary size and terrifying power.
Known as the Oilliphéist, this legendary monster is often described as a gigantic serpent or dragon, capable of striking fear into anyone unfortunate enough to encounter it.
The name itself is associated with the idea of a great beast or monstrous creature.
Unlike the magnificent Enbarr, whose magical abilities allowed it to travel across land and sea, the Oilliphéist represents something far more sinister.
A creature of immense strength, mysterious origins and seemingly unstoppable power.
One of the best-known legends tells of a monstrous Oilliphéist fleeing across Ireland after hearing that Saint Patrick intended to drive such creatures from the land.
As the enormous beast surged through the countryside, its massive body carved a great channel through the landscape.
According to the legend, that channel eventually filled with water, creating the course of the River Shannon.
A creature so powerful that its very movements were said to reshape Ireland itself!
On Friday 14th May 2027, our own encounter with the Oilliphéist begins.
The 58-mile Mount to Coast Oilliphéist is Day 8 of our extraordinary 14-day MizMal® adventure, and one of the longest stages of the entire challenge.
For our full MizMal® competitors, seven consecutive days of ultra running are already behind them.
But there's no gentle introduction to the second half!
Instead, they face a monstrous 58-mile test of endurance, determination and mental strength.
Standalone competitors will also have the opportunity to take on this legendary challenge and earn their place among the Oilliphéist finishers.
The Oilliphéist was said to possess enough strength to carve a river through Ireland.
You'll need to summon your own reserves of strength to conquer this extraordinary ultramarathon.
58 MILES. ONE MONSTROUS CHALLENGE. ONE LEGENDARY IRISH ADVENTURE.
